Heavy Rains Expected

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds along the southern coast early next week as a storm over the northern Mozambique Channel approaches.

The weatherman said on Sunday, October 26, the system, about 500 kilometres north of Madagascar, is weakening but may still cause heavy showers and gusty winds along southern coastal Kenya and parts of Tanzania on Monday and Tuesday.

“Residents, particularly in coastal areas and those involved in marine activities, should exercise caution and follow official updates,” said Kenya Met in a statement.

The department noted that winds could exceed 25 knots along the south coast as the storm dissipates, warning that the combination of rain and gusts may disrupt marine and near-shore activities.

The weatherman urged the public to monitor advisories and take necessary precautions as the storm’s remnants move closer to the coastline.
