A 31-year-old man who allegedly attempted to stab his mother with a pen knife after she failed to give him money for luxury is facing charges of attempt to strike contrary to section 231 (b) of the Penal Code.

Zacharia Abdi is accused of making an attempt to stab his mother Nasra Mohamed at her house in South B, Makadara Sub County in Nairobi on September 26.

The accused person had asked his mother for Sh2000 as usual but she did not have the cash since she had already given him the same amount of money a few hours earlier to repair his phone which he had allegedly used on drugs.

Mohamed, who had left the house for work, was called by her other son who informed her that the accused person was damaging household items while swearing to harm his mother.

On return, she met her nephew who pleaded with her not to proceed to the house but the suspect saw her peeping into the house. He picked a knife while allegedly threatening to kill her.

Ms Mohamed called the police emergency number and the police officers on duty in the area arrived swiftly and rescued her from her son.

The officers arrested Abdi and allegedly recovered the knife.

During investigations, Ms Mohamed told police that her son has been threatening to kill her each time she lacked money to give him.

The accused person denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Beatrice Kimemia.

He was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh60, 000.

The case will be mentioned on October 14, 2025 and an alternative cash bail of Sh60, 000.
