Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has robustly defended his political record following speculation that he had endorsed President William Ruto during a recent visit to Ukambani.
Speaking after the President’s short notice stop in the region, Kilonzo Jr. dismissed claims linking him to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
In a detailed statement, Kilonzo Jr. emphasized that his visit to Emali and Wote was solely to advocate for local development projects, including the Emali–Ukia Road upgrade, market status reports, and an affordable housing initiative. He also highlighted efforts to resolve longstanding issues at the Emali sports ground and the SEKU land dispute.
“I simply stated that the people of Makueni deserve a proper road and our youth deserve a field to play on,” he said, underlining that his actions were motivated by constituency service rather than political alignment.
Kilonzo Jr. criticized what he described as false narratives and attempts to sow discord, asserting that he would never compromise his principles for political convenience. He recalled his 2022 stand insisting that Kalonzo Musyoka must be Raila Odinga’s running mate, reinforcing his deep-rooted loyalty to Wiper.
“Anyone thinking they can drive a wedge between me and Kalonzo Musyoka is wasting time. Anyone thinking I could ever become a UDA sympathizer is also wasting time. My membership in Wiper is deep and emotional. It’s not based on position or political convenience,” Kilonzo Jr. said.
Addressing accusations that he had informal communications with the President, the Senator explained that he had no formal invitation but felt compelled to meet the Head of State in the interest of Makueni residents.
Kilonzo Jr. also pointed out that much of the speculation came from individuals who had previously left Wiper and later returned, suggesting political opportunism.
“Those trying to sow seeds of discord are wasting their time and energy. I speak boldly and stand by my words,” he said.
The Senator concluded by warning potential challengers ahead of the 2027 general election to prepare for a “real contest” rather than spreading baseless narratives, reaffirming his commitment to his constituents and party.
