Larry Madowo, the CNN International correspondent, has sparked public outrage following a viral video that captured a confrontation on the roads of Nairobi between him and Kibra MP Peter Orero.
The incident occurred on October 9, 2025, when the MP’s vehicle—driven on the wrong side of a busy road—was blocked by Madowo, who refused to yield.
In the footage, the MP and his driver are heard chastising the journalist with crude insults, including “takataka,” while telling him to, “Take the video to President William Ruto.”
Madowo, visibly calm, responded: “Okay, I will take it to Ruto—that’s the only thing you are afraid of.”
This comes at a time when the police have launched investigations and a warrant of arrest issued against the driver for violating traffic rules while insulting Ruto.
Reactions from online
The video ignited widespread condemnation on social media, with Kenyans accusing Peter Orero of VIP impunity and calling out a lack of respect for road laws. Many criticized the behaviour as unbecoming of a public servant.
Law enforcement has since announced plans to locate Orero’s driver using the viral clip as evidence. Authorities stress that no one—including elected representatives—has a license to break traffic laws, even under the guise of urgency.
Several former students of Orero, who once followed his strict discipline as a teacher, expressed disappointment, saying his actions now starkly contrast with the values he once embodied.
Another X user said,”Do y’all remember when Mwalimu Peter Orero was confirmed MP after defeating his close competitor? Kibera residents had seen some ounce of hope in that interview. But ,but all that glitters….”
“Police have been “looking” for Kibera MP’s driver. But kama ingekuwa blogger, they’d have been arrested them mid-tweet kabla afinye that send button,”read a tweet.
