Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman named Faith Cherono in relation to the hacking death of her boyfriend, Emanuel Kiprono, which was purportedly caused by a fight over a cell phone in Kipyosit, Bomet East Sub-County in Bomet.

Bomet East OCPD Michael Singa, confirming the incident over the phone on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, said that the suspect reportedly went to the boyfriend’s house demanding the return of the phone, which she claimed was hers.

According to Singa, the boyfriend refused to hand over the phone to the lady, and this led to an argument between the couple.

“The suspect, named Faith Cherono, 25 years of age, went to her boyfriend’s house demanding the phone that the suspect claimed was hers, but the boyfriend hesitated to hand it over, leading to an argument between them,” Singa told K24 Digital.

Following their arguments at the boyfriend’s house, the couple ran towards the Mau Forest when the suspect reportedly attacked the boyfriend.

The suspect used a sword to strike the victim on the back of the head before fleeing.

“They left the home and ran towards the Mau Forest before the lady attacked him using the Maasai sword on the back of the head before running away,” Singa said.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene, crossing into Narok County, where she reportedly surrendered to officers at Tendwet Police Station in Narok South.

Officers later collected her from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, September 8, 2025.

The body of the deceased, which bore a deep cut at the back of the head, was recovered by police who visited the crime scene and was taken to Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Bomet women representative Linet Chepkorir (Toto) condemned this incident, highlighting the pervasive issue of gender-based violence (GBV).

“This heartbreaking incident is yet another painful reminder of how gender-based violence continues to rob families of their loved ones and destroy the very fabric of our society. No form of anger or disagreement should ever lead to violence,” Linet wrote on a post on her official Facebook page.

She further stressed the need for peaceful conflict resolution and community action in speaking out on the issues that society is facing at home.

“As a community, we must speak out and take action against all forms of gender-based violence, whether against men or women. Let us strengthen family values, promote peaceful dialogue, and offer support systems for those facing conflict at home,” Linet added.
