A social media personality facing sedition charges has announced the formation of a political movement aimed at challenging Kenya’s political establishment.
Shedrack Omondi Okindo, known as Hon. Mosquito, said on Monday, September 8 that the new group, dubbed MLM Movement, will push for grassroots leadership and citizen empowerment.
“I have made a firm decision to take revolutionary politics to the next level,” said Okindo, adding, “We are not waiting for change. We are the change.”
The announcement comes days after Okindo was arrested in Mombasa by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over a viral TikTok video that police described as seditious and inciteful.
The video allegedly contained threats of violence and praise for recent coups in West Africa.
A search of Okindo’s residence uncovered tactical combat fatigues, mobile phones, and documents linked to the banned Justice Direction Party (JDP), which is not registered under the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties2.
Investigators also recovered a notebook referencing guerrilla resistance tactics.
Okindo denied the charges and said the movement stands for ‘Mobilising Leadership for the Masses,’ describing it as a platform for transparency and accountability.
“This is not just politics as usual. This is politics with purpose,” he said.
The movement has not been formally registered.
