A motorcycle rider contracted by an online marketplace and logistics service provider to deliver products for clients is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing goods worth Sh32,000 he was to give to customers within the Embakasi area of Nairobi.

Alfred Shinami is accused of stealing the goods contrary to section 268 (1) as read with section 275 of the Penal Code.

He is accused of stealing the items, mainly household items, destined to end user stores, electronics, electricals and electronics and accessories, cloth, among others, after picking them up at the Cabanas Area in Embakasi South Sub-County.

Shinami collected the items to deliver to Jumia clients, but the anticipated clients did not receive them, prompting them to lodge complaints with the company.

The suspect denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich of Makadara law courts and was released on a surety bond of ofSh100,0000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000.

The security officer, Martin reported the matter at Villa police station, where he notified the police that Shinami had gone missing and had not delivered the goods to clients.

The accused person later called the company’s official to report that he lost the items after being drugged by unknown persons, but the same was suspected to be a lie.

He disappeared completely thereafter and switched off his mobile phone.

Shinami was traced to Mirema in Kasarani sub-County, Nairobi i where he was arrested and arraigned in court.

The case will be mentioned on September 1, before the hearing starts on October 7 2025.
