The High Court has rejected an application seeking to block the prosecution of Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok in connection with corruption allegations.

Governor Barchok had moved to court, arguing that the case was politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing his reputation. His legal team sought temporary orders to suspend the proceedings pending the determination of a petition challenging the charges.

However, in its ruling, the court held that the governor must face the law, stating that questions regarding the credibility of the evidence should be determined during the trial and not at the preliminary stage.

The ruling clears the way for anti-graft agencies to proceed with the case, in which the county boss is accused of involvement in irregular procurement and misuse of public funds.

on Thursday, August 28, DPP Renson Ingonga listed the names of county officials, governors and contractors facing serious allegations of corruption, violation of procurement laws and misappropriation of public property.

Governor Barchok and a contractor are set to appear in court to answer charges of conflict of interest and unlawful property acquisition through county contracts worth Ksh.2.75 million.

“The EACC recommended that the following persons be arraigned in court; Hillary Kipng’eno Barchok, the Governor of Bomet and Evans Kipkoech Korir, Director of Chemasus Construction Limited,” read the statement.

Governor Barchok has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that his administration has adhered to all procurement laws and regulations. He pledged to cooperate with investigators while defending his track record in managing county affairs.

Others facing charges and approved by theĀ  Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)are former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati while ordering further investigations into Kiambu and Marsabit Counties.

Among those expected to be arraigned in court include Wamatangi, his wife Anne Waruguru, Charles Kiarie, Mary Njeri, Joseph Mwaura, Annie Njoroge and Faith Wambui.
