Kenya’s capital will take centre stage in September as it hosts the 9th edition of the Pacesetters International Awards (PIA), a prestigious continental platform celebrating the transformative role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups in Africa’s economy.
The gala, scheduled for 12th September 2025 in Nairobi, will bring together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and innovators for a night of recognition and dialogue on Africa’s business future.
This year’s awards, organized by Jubilant Stewards of Africa (JSA) in collaboration with the United SMEs Association of Kenya, will celebrate enterprises that have demonstrated resilience, innovation, and social responsibility. Categories will spotlight leadership, sustainability, customer service, technology adoption, diversity, and inclusivity.
“SMEs are the engine of our economy, and the companies shortlisted this year have redefined excellence through creativity, resilience, and impact,” said Jared Oundo, Executive Director of JSA. “These awards are more than trophies — they are a benchmark of trust and performance.”
The Performance Index (OPI), a globally recognized benchmarking tool, is used in the rigorous vetting process that involves public voting, industry research, and expert reviews. Winners are chosen based on their contributions to economic growth, ethical practices, and social impact.

A Legacy of Excellence
Since its inception, the PIA Awards have been staged in major African cities, including Kampala, Dar es Salaam, and Nairobi. The 2023 continental chapter was hosted at Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam, while the East African edition took place at Weston Hotel in Nairobi. Previous ceremonies have been held at Panari Hotel (Nairobi) and Serena Hotel (Kampala).
The events are widely regarded as a seal of credibility for SMEs across the continent, offering both recognition and visibility to businesses making tangible societal contributions.
Speaking ahead of the awards, Mr. Oundo urged policymakers to accelerate reforms aimed at empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “Unlocking SME potential requires deliberate government action — affordable credit, better access to financial services, and a regulatory environment that enables growth,” he said.
With hundreds of delegates expected, the 2025 Pacesetters International Awards will not only celebrate Africa’s brightest entrepreneurial stars but also provide a rare opportunity for collaboration, investment, and shared learning.
