A 27-year-old woman who allegedly assaulted her mother and threatened to kill her is facing charges of issuing death threats.

Emmaculate Nyangasi is accused of threatening to kill her mother, Pulkeria Chuw, on August 14, contrary to section 223 (1) of the Penal Code.

“On August 14, 202,5, at Soweto in Embakasi East Sub County within Nairobi, without lawful excuse, uttered words “wewe nitakumalinzia, lazima nikuue” threatening to kill Pulkeria Chuwa,” the charges read in part.

She denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu of the Makadara law courts. She was released on a cash bail of Sh30,000.

Chuwa returned home in the evening and found a crowd outside her doorstep. Nyangai had opened the gas to leak inside the house while allegedly waiting to set the house ablaze once her mother walked in.

She had cautioned her mother’s tenants that none should strike a match stick lest they also get burned.

Chuwa asked her second-born daughter why she had caused panic in the neighbourhood.

The suspect allegedly pounced on her mother and rained slaps on her while reportedly uttering the words that the prosecution believes are threatening the life of the elderly woman.

Nyangasi was reportedly hurling insults at her mother even after neighbours intervened and rescued Chuwa, but later fled after fearing that neighbours and other members of the public were planning to take action against her.

Chuwa reported the matter at Soweto police station and informed the police that her daughter had made her life miserable and sought help from the cops, and the suspect was arrested.

The case will be mentioned on October 30 for a pretrial.
