A man who allegedly assaulted a married woman and took her mobile phone after she blocked his phone calls to stop stalking is facing charges of violent robbery.
Ambrose Imoh was charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 295 as read with section 296 (2) of the Penal Code.
He is accused of robbing Martha Mwikali of her mobile phone worth Sh15, 000 at kwa Maji area within Njiru sub county in Nairobi on August 13 after she blocked his phone calls.
Imoh had allegedly accused Mwikali of being disrespectful to him for blocking his calls instead of rejecting his overtures with respect.
The suspect went to Mwikali’s shop, allegedly took her phone and assaulted her after a brief argument. He denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu of the Makadara law courts.
A pastor who was around and witnessed the incident has told police that Imoh had told him that he wanted to have a brief discussion with the complainant before he saw him grab Mwikali’s phone and later assault her.
Mwikali reported the incident to her husband and he confronted Imoh who declined to surrender the phone and the matter was reported at Mowlem police station.
Police arrested Imoh at his workplace and allegedly recovered the mobile phone from him.
Police had allowed Imoh to return the mobile phone to the owner and compensate her for the assault and harassment but he rejected the gesture before he was arraigned at the court.
Imoh was granted a bond of Sh300, 000 without an option of a cash bail.
The matter will be mentioned on October 30.
